Prewar Carette Clockwork Submarine

Here is a real survivor!. This great clockwork submarine was made in prewar Germany by the George Carette company. The sub is close to 9″ long and is in excellent original condition.The paint has wear as seen in the photos. The very important clockwork motor cover is still there as is the periscope. The periscope fits in a hole in the deck, but is loose. I have chosen not to fasten it in so as to leave this great toy boat original.The clockwork motor works very well. There is a key included, but it’s unknown if it is original to the toy. The box is thought to be original to the toy, but is not guaranteed. The toy fits it well, and it still has period wood shavings that were used to protect early European tin toys. I found a photo of a restored example, and apparently there was a [paur of tin flags at one time that fit into the superstructure. I’m reasonably certain replacements could be found if desired.
