This is a mammoth Esso gas station made by Doll & Cie in Germany in the late teens to early 20’s. The heavy tin station is 16″ tall, 19.5″ long, and 10″ wide. The finish appears to be hand painted. The toy is all original, with no repairs or replacement parts that are evident. It looks like there was electric lighting in the roof to illuminate the signs, but the fixture is no longer there. As I have never seen another example, I don’t know if anything is missing other than a handle on the station door. The paint has flaking and wear as can be seen in the photos.
